Villa Description

Just outside of Lucca, an 18th-century farmhouse, restored in traditional Tuscan style, is nestled on 40 lush acres of land with breathtaking views. San Martino offers luxurious living both indoors and out. The interior architecture is modern yet rustic with furnishings highlighted by wooden ceiling beams, the warmth of four fireplaces, and four pairs of double French (originally stable) doors opening outward to the sun.

Enter San Martino on the second floor into a large library filled with books on Italian culture, a large studio with fireplace, office and sitting areas. On the first floor, the modern, fully equipped kitchen and dining room (with fireplace) both lead to the romantic outdoor pergola through double French doors. Relax in the lovely living room, also warmed by a 16th-century fireplace, and nearby card room/salon. All bedrooms have their own bathrooms—two have fireplaces and three have desks with office/reading areas.

Step down from the villa via the age-old stone steps to the 60-foot mosaic swimming pool, beautiful pergola, outdoor living room and pizza oven.

San Martino is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, vegetable gardens and lush greenery on all sides. On clear days, you can even see the leaning tower of Pisa! Just an hour away from Florence and 30 minutes from the well-known beach area of Forte dei Marmi.

Additional Information

The historic town of Lucca features many attractions and unlimited historic charm. Take a stroll or rent a bicycle and ride through the town past famous monuments, ancient walls, several churches and the Guinigi Tower, which has trees planted at the top. In the town's cathedral is a small chapel containing the famous "volto santo" cross of Lucca. Every September 14th, the huge procession of Santa Croce fills the streets of Lucca to commemorate the date when the cross was first brought to the town. Tourists from all over the world come to enjoy this annual local tradition. Make sure to visit the church of Saint Michele, then enjoy cappuccino in Saint Michele square. And don't miss shopping along the Via Fillungo! There is something interesting to discover around every corner of Lucca.

North of Lucca, the famous Garfagnana Valley extends for miles, a splendid natural vista of mountains and hills. Along the way, stop at the famous "Devil's Bridge"—legend says the Devil himself has visited this spot. A huge Halloween celebration is held here every year. In Pisa, the famous Leaning Tower awaits. Some say it is one of the wonders of the world, and all agree that a sight of the Leaning Tower is a must for all who come to Italy. Nearby Forte Dei Marmi is one of the most popular places in Italy during the summer, boasting a beautiful beach, elegant shops and boutiques, and active nightlife of bars and discos like La Capannina and the Twiga Club.
